To all of those living with a hidden disability – I see you and you are not alone. This is a community for you.
Hi! I’m Kate and I am a licensed psychologist in California specializing in brain health and cognition. After living with significant fatigue and sleepiness for 20 years, I was finally diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia a few weeks ago. I’m not gonna lie – idiopathic hypersomnia sucks and it can feel really isolating. Hidden disabilities are real and impact so many of us.
So many of us get up every morning and go about our days while managing conditions that no one can see, and oftentimes, conditions that people (including our doctors) don’t understand.
I want to help create a community to share my journey, to provide new research and information, give tips and tricks I’ve learned (or will be trying) to boost mental and physical health, and celebrate who we are as people with hidden disabilities. I mean, look at all the things we do while managing our mental and physical health conditions – we are amazing individuals.
So welcome to the Sleepy Psychologist. Time to journey through this crazy thing we call life – and I’m so happy we can take this journey together.
